This tour is a walk through Downtown Baltimore’s traditional business district. This is a nice walk for architecture buffs. You can see structures built over the last hundred years since the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. Different parts of downtown are examples of the various stages of Baltimore’s rebuilding process over the last century
Mile 0 – Begin at the NE corner of Pratt and Light Streets (In front of the Jos A Bank Clothier). Walk east down Pratt Street.
This part of downtown has been redeveloped since the late 1970’s. Harborplace on your right opened in 1980 and has been much of the catalyst for the Inner Harbor redevelopment and movement of downtown to the east you can see in the distance.
Mile .35 – Left on Market Place
The Power Plant Live entertainment district is straight ahead. The Port Discovery Children’s Museum is housed in the old city fish market.
Mile .50 – Left on Water Street
The next part of the trip until Charles Street takes you past many fine early twentieth century buildings.
Mile .65 – Right on South Street

The imposing red brick structure on the northeast corner of Calvert and Redwood Streets is on of the few to survive the Great
Baltimore Fire of 1904
Mile .90 Right on Charles Street
The left side of Charles Street is lined by Charles Center, Baltimore’s first major urban renewal project built in the 1960’s and 70’s. It was the important predecessor to the more famous Inner Harbor renewal project
Mile 1.2 Right on Saratoga Street
Old St. Paul’s Church at this corner is one of the oldest structures in downtown Baltimore, built in 1852.
Mile 1.25 Right on St. Paul Place
Mile 1.3 Left on Lexington Street
Mile 1.4 Right on Calvert Street
The area here is War Memorial Plaza. The tall monument at the south end is a memorial to the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.The
buildings surrounding the plaza are Baltimore’s main courthouses.
