This is a website for both visitors and locals looking to explore Charm City by foot. The Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards are well known landmarks, but much of Baltimore’s charm can be found beyond the tourist havens near Harborplace. Baltimore is a very walkable city, with interesting sites within hiking distance of the downtown hotels.
We will include some simple short trips the whole family can enjoy to some vigorous longer distance walks.
How This Site Works
This site is designed to be simple to use. Each page is a walking tour of parts of Baltimore that you can print up and keep in your pocket with a tourist map. Links for more information on interesting sites along the wayare provided. Distance , terrain, and difficulty are included for each journey.
A Few Tips Before You Start
- The Baltimore Visitor Center on the Inner Harbor near Harborplace is a great resource. Many of the hikes begin near here. It is a good place to pick up a tourist map, buy tickets, find useful information, and get some discounts.
- The map link on each page will take you to a map of the general area the hike is in.
- Explore! Feel free to wander down side streets not on the exact tours. You will find many interesting sites by exploring near these hikes. It should be easy to backtrack and continue your tour when you are done.
- Wear good walking or hiking shoes. A long distance trek on pavement can be rough on the feet
- Check the weather report. Baltimore can be very hot and humid in the summer and thunderstorms can seem to come from nowhere. Loose, comfortable clothes and a hat are a great idea on these hot days, and don’t forget the sunscreen. Spring and fall have excellent trekking weather in the Mid Atlantic area.
- Both the downtown and waterfront areas have friendly uniformed guides patrolling the area. They are treasure troves of information and can also assist you if you are having a problem.
